How is my deadline to provide work to Medical Review Services (MRS) determined?
When customers receive notice from the MRS team that they are required to undergo the review process, a suspension date will be assigned should the customer not provide the requested materials in a timely manner. MRS determines this date by adding 60 days from the date that MRS was notified of a need for review to allow time for the customer to set up an appointment with their medical provider (if they have not had an appointment that addresses the relevant condition, medication, or event in the last 6 months).
What do I do if I will not complete my required materials before the suspension deadline?
If you are approaching a suspension deadline and have not yet gathered the information and materials required by MRS, please notify the Work Center of your situation. In some circumstances, an extension to your suspension date can be granted if all relevant criteria are met. Please contact the Medical Review Services HelpDesk at 804-367-6203.
What do I do if I have been suspended for not meeting my deadline but would like to restore my driving privileges?
When a customer has reached their suspension date without materials being provided to MRS, their driving privileges will be suspended. Completing the Medical Review process can restore driving privileges assuming all MRS requirements are met, and your medical condition is not severe enough to warrant continued suspension. To resume the Medical Review process after missing your deadline, follow all original instructions sent by the DMV and await contact from MRS for further instruction.
How can I ensure that my license is not suspended for missed deadlines?
If your suspension date is approaching, but has not yet occurred, we ask that you complete the instructions sent to you by the DMV as quickly as possible. Planning ahead will allow the MRS team time to process your records and reach a decision regarding your next steps as quickly as possible; please provide your requested information to MRS at least 5-7 days before your suspension deadline to allow for processing time.
