Meet the Commissioner

A message from Gerald Lackey

Yes, I am the DMV Commissioner. I am also a DMV customer. I know first-hand what a critical resource the DMV is through life. We were there when you got your first license, titled your first vehicle, got a copy of your Virginia marriage certificate. And we’re there for Virginia businesses, too. Helping you manage your fleets, licensing your new salespeople, and making roadways safer. Wherever you are, we’ll be there.

It's in that spirit, I invite you to use all this site has to offer. Virginia DMV was the first to have online service in 1999. And we’re still one of the leading states for the number of transactions you can conduct online.
