Online driver improvement clinic refers to any clinic licensed by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to conduct driver improvement clinics via the Internet or other electronic means approved by DMV.
DMV is responsible for the licensing and oversight of online driver improvement clinics. Our objective is to ensure that these clinics provide high quality education in a safe and secure learning environment.
Individuals of all ages may elect to take an online driver improvement course through a DMV-licensed online driving improvement clinic provider.
About Online Driver Improvement Clinics
There are many Reasons for Attending a Driver Improvement Course. Make sure you know which one applies to you. Upon successful completion of the online course, you may be eligible to receive up to five safe driving points.
The online course consists of at least eight-hours of instruction. To benefit from the course, you must be able to work independently and be comfortable with using a computer.
NOTE: An online driver improvement clinic will not meet the requirements of a commercial driver improvement clinic.
Final Course Exam
The online driver improvement course final exam must be taken online through the online clinic provider that you registered with to take the online course. No paper testing is allowed. The test may be taken only once per business day. You will be required to verify identification throughout the course and prior to taking the final test.
If the clinic is completed online, the course and final test must be completed through a DMV-licensed online driver improvement clinic provider. If the clinic is completed in person, the final test must be completed in person. You may visit the DMV website at www.dmvNow.com and follow the link for Drivers/ID Services for a list of online driver improvement clinics and in-person driver improvement clinics.
Acceptance by the Court
Your court may or may not accept the certificate of completion. It is your responsibility to determine whether your court would accepts courses taken at online traffic schools.
If you are required by the court to complete a driver improvement clinic, the court will determine if you are to be awarded safe driving points. You must furnish documentation from the court to the online driver improvement clinic provider before DMV can award points. Safe driving points will not be awarded if the online clinic provider does not receive this documentation.
Online Course Listing
It is your responsibility to remember or write down the name of the online driver improvement clinic provider that you selected. DMV does not record this information until you have successfully completed the course.
